Brittany Schmidt, MS, LPCC
Adolescent and Adult LGBTQIA+ and Gender Therapist

Welcome!

First, I want to say that I'm proud of you for taking this first step of looking into therapy. I am here because I believe that, generally, our society struggles to hold space for heavy feelings. We may often feel emotionally dismissed or misunderstood by others. I am here to hold that space for you. My approach as a therapist is highly collaborative. I believe that the client is the expert of themselves, and that I am here to, ideally, do things like provide insight, support, access to resources, teach skills, etc. I work with adolescents, couples, and adults of all ages. I have prioritized gender affirming therapy over the last six years of my career. I am a queer and neurodivergent-affirming therapist, and practice through an affirming, person centered lens. I apply principles of neuroscience to my approach, bringing the science of understanding the brain into the humanity of counseling.

I aim to be open and genuine in sessions with you, and I welcome feedback from my clients about what does and does not work for them. When needed, I am able to be directive in sessions. This approach can be particularly beneficial in couples sessions. While I have therapeutic lens' that I practice through, I craft my approach to what will best serve the client; whether that is being highly directive, or holding space for you to vent about and process your thoughts and feelings. I welcome the possibility of working with you, and would love to have a consultation call to determine if we would work well together!
